smokeI twisted around a little; I was working towards sleep, though that would be difficult with the pain. Trying to bring my arms up to cover my bare upper body and keep me warm, I only succeeded in having them fall weakly to my sides again, rubbing against the bandages taped over the stab wound in my chest. Stupid wanker…God, what I wouldn't do for a smoke right now.

I heard the door to the small room open then close. I wouldn't have caught it if I had still been shifting around. Light, bare footsteps came next, with the few tiny clinks of something else. Only one person toke that much care with stealth.

"Mae, love. Come to keep me warm,
